Sark
Just 40 minutes by ferry from St Peter Port, Sark is a beautiful and intriguing island that refuses to kow-tow to the motor car. From the Dame of Sark’s dignified resistance to German occupation to a bizarre, attempted putsch by an armed businessman (foiled by locals leaving the pub) Sark remains reassuringly independent.
For Channel Islanders, Sark means tractor rides up from the miniature, piratical Creux harbour, horse drawn taxis, and long lobster lunches. If the pace of life in the island is, at best, unhurried, then eating and drinking succeed in bringing it to a complete standstill. What could match a long Sunday lunch of delicious Sark lamb? Or dining alfresco on fresh seafood, caught that morning by the barman? If that sounds good – and let’s faces it, it does - then why not join us?
And there’s plenty more refreshment available between meals. Tea gardens, pubs and cafés all serve up a wide range of local produce. To cap it all, Sark produces its very own ice cream and luxury chocolates.
