Good Food Guernsey

Herm

To arrive in Herm on a sunny day is to climb from the life’s endless stream and rest awhile on the bank. But the island’s magnificent, sandy beaches, crystal clear water and car free tracks are under 90 minutes from London, including the boat trip from St Peter Port.

The island’s tiny village is home to a pub, serving barbecue and bar meals, and a hotel - erstwhile home to Prussian Prince Bluecher von Wahlsttdt and a Bloomsbury author. Open since 1860, the White House Hotel is still a haven for travellers seeking peace and quiet. Its manicured lawns, Union flag and wood panelled bar are all vital ingredients of Herm.

For a real treat, take a tip from the locals and catch the evening ferry from Guernsey, for dinner. The food, moonlight and scent of the flowers merge into something that is truly unforgettable.
